Hassid, Josef [ Chasyd, Joseph] (b Suwalki, Poland, 1923; d Epsom, 1950). Pol. violinist. At age of 10 entered Wieniawski comp., 1934 (1st and 2nd prizewinners were Ginette Neveu and David Oistrakh). First London recital 1938. Début with orch. 1938 (Tchaikovsky conc. with LPO). Last concert London 1941. Career terminated by mental illness.
