Grüner-Hegge, Odd

Grüner-Hegge, Odd, Norwegian conductor and composer; b. Christiania, Sept. 23, 1899; d. there (Oslo), May 11, 1973. He studied piano and composition at the Christiania Cons, and conducting with Weingartner. In 1927 he began his conducting career; from 1931 he was a conductor with the Oslo Phil, subsequently serving as its chief conductor from 1945 to 1961; he then was manager of the Norwegian Opera in Oslo from 1961 to 1969. He also appeared as a guest conductor with many of the leading European orchs. Among his works were orch. scores, chamber music, and piano pieces.
