Grevillius, Nils

Grevillius, Nils, Swedish conductor; b. Stockholm, March 7, 1893; d. Mariefred, Aug. 15, 1970. He was a violin student of Book at the Stockholm Cons. (1905-11), where he received 1st prize and the Prix Marteau, and later was a conducting student in Sondershausen and London. He began his career as concert-master of the Royal Theater Orch. in Stockholm (1911-14). After serving as asst. conductor of the Stock-holm Concert Soc. (1914-20), he conducted the Ballet Suedois in Paris (1922-23) and the Vienna Tonkiinstlerverein (1923). Upon his return to Stockholm, he was conductor of the Royal Orch. (1924-53) and the Radio Orch. (1927-39), and also was court music director (1931-53).
