Giazotto, Remo

Giazotto, Remo, Italian musicologist; b. Rome, Sept. 4, 1910. He studied piano and composition at the Milan Cons. (1931-33), his principal mentors being Torrefranca, Pizzetti, and Paribeni; he also took courses in literature and philosophy at the Univ. of Genoa. In 1932 he joined the staff of the Rivista Musicale Italiana, serving as its ed. (1945-49), and later as co-ed, of the Nuova Rivista Musicale Italiana (from 1967); he also was a prof. of music history at the Univ. of Florence (1957-69). The popular Adagio for Strings and Organ frequently attributed to Albinoni is almost totally the work of Giazotto.
