Gawrónski, Wojdech
Gawrónski, Wojdech, Polish pianist, pedagogue, and composer; b. Seimony, near Vilnius, March 28, 1868; Kowanowko, near Posen, Aug. 5, 1910. He was a pupil at the Warsaw Music Inst. of Strobl (piano), Roguski (theory), and Noskowski (composition); he also studied privately with Minchejmer in Warsaw and Moszkowski in Berlin. He made successful concert tours in Poland and Russia, becoming particularly known for his performances of Chopin. After running his own music school in Orel (1895–1902), he taught in Warsaw and Lódź. He wrote three operas, Samuel Zborowski, Marja, and Pojata, as well as a Sym., 3 string quartets, piano pieces, and songs.
