Fussan, Werner

Fussan, Werner, German composer and teacher; b. Plauen, Dec. 25, 1912; d. Mainz, Aug. 16, 1986. He was a pupil of Gmeindl and Hoffer at the Berlin Hochschule für Musik (1937–40). After teaching at the Wiesbaden Cons. (1945–48), he joined the faculty of the Mainz Hochschule für Musik, where he later was prof. of music education (1966–78).

ORCH Musik for Strings (1943); Musik (1947); Prelude (1947); Capriccio (1949); Musik for Strings, Piano, Timpani, and Percussion (1950); Suite for Strings (1951); Concertino for Flute and Strings (1957); Little Suite for Strings (1958); Concertino for Clarinet, Strings, and Trumpet (1966). CHAMBER: Piano Sonata (1946); Musik for Flute and Piano (1947); Musik for Violin and Piano (1949); String Trio (1953). VOCAL: Heiteres Aquarium for Chorus (1967); Tanzlieder-Kantate for Soloists, Choruses, and Orch. (1970); Feier-Kantate for Choruses and Small Orch. (1972); Swing and Sing for Chorus and Rhythm Group (1972). OTHER: Numerous educational pieces.
