Fricker, Herbert (Austin)

Fricker, Herbert (Austin), English organist and composer; b. Canterbury, Feb. 12, 1868; d. Toronto, Nov. 11, 1943. He studied organ with W.H. Longhurst, and composition with Sir Frederick Bridge and Edwin Lemare. After filling posts as organist in Canterbury, Folkstone, and Leeds, he moved to Toronto in 1917, and conducted the Mendelssohn Choir there until 1942. He composed sacred and secular choruses and organ pieces.
