Frackenpohl, Arthur (Roland)

Frackenpohl, Arthur (Roland), American composer and teacher; b. Irvington, N.J., April 23, 1924. He studied with Rogers at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. (B.A., 1947; M.A., 1949), took courses with Milhaud at the Berkshire Music Center in Tangle-wood (summer, 1948) and with Boulanger in Fontainebleau (1950), and then completed his studies at McGill Univ. in Montreal (D.M.A., 1957). He became a teacher at the Crane School of Music at the State Univ. of N.Y. at Potsdam (1949); was a prof, there (1961–85). He publ. Harmonization at the Piano (1962; 6th ed., 1990).
