Ford, Bruce (Edwin)
Ford, Bruce (Edwin), American tenor; b. Lubbock, Tex., Aug. 15, 1956. He studied at West Tex. A. &M. Univ., Tex. Tech Univ., and the Houston Opera Studio, where he appeared in student productions. In 1981 he sang in the premiere of Floyd’s Willie Stark at the Houston Grand Opera. From 1983 to 1985 he was a member of the Wuppertal Opera. In 1985 he sang Count Almaviva in Bordeaux and Tamino at the Minn. Opera. He was a member of the Mannheim National Theatre from 1985 to 1987. In 1986 he appeared as Rossini’s Argirio at the Wexford Festival. After singing that composer’s Agorante in Pesaro in 1990, he made his debut at London’s Covent Garden as Count Almaviva in 1991. In 1992 he appeared as Rossini’s Uberto at Milan’s La Scala and as his Rodrigo at the San Francisco Opera in 1994. He sang Ernesto in Don Pasquale at the Lyric Opera in Chicago in 1995. His Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. followed as Count Almaviva on Oct. 22, 1997. In 1998 he was engaged as Lindoro in Paris. He portrayed Don Ottavio in Geneva in 1999.
