Fleury, Louis (François)
Fleury, Louis (François), eminent French flutist;b. Lyons, May 24, 1878; d. Paris, June 11, 1926. He studied at the Paris Cons. From 1905 until his death he was head of the famous Societe Moderne d Instruments a Vent; also (from 1906) of the Societe des Concerts d’Autrefois, with which he gave concerts in England; made appearances with Melba and Calve. Debussy composed Syrinx for Unaccompanied Flute for him. He ed. much early flute music, including sonatas and other pieces by Blavet, Naudet, Purcell, J. Stanley et al., and contributed to French and English periodicals.
