Fabrizi, Vincenzo

Fabrizi, Vincenzo, Italian composer; b. Naples, 1764; d. after 1812. After bringing out operas in Naples and Bologna, he went to Rome and was elected maestro di cappella at the Univ. in 1786. From then until 1788 he was musical director of Rome’s Teatro Capranica, where he won particular success with his comic operas La sposa invisibile (Feb. 20, 1786) and // convitato di pietra, also known as Don Giovanni Tenorio ossia II convitato di pietra (Carnival 1787). The latter was performed throughout Europe with fine success.
