Esquivel Barahona, Juan (de) , significantSpanish composer; b. Ciudad Rodrigo, c. 1563; d. prob-ably there, after 1613. He received training from Juan Navarro, the maestro de capilla at Ciudad Rodrigo Cathedral, whom he succeeded in that position in 1608. He was one of the leading Spanish composers of his era, and publ. a vol. of masses for 4 to 6 Voices (Salamanca, 1608) and 2 vols. of motets for 4 to 6 and 8 Voices (Salamanca, 1608, 1613).
