Ermatinger, Erhart, Swiss composer; b. Winterthur, Feb. 16, 1900; d. Arnhem, July 14, 1966. He studied at the Zurich Cons, with Jarnach, then at the Berlin Hochschule fur Musik. In 1922–23 he was chorus master at the Zurich Opera; later a private teacher there; in 1925–26, was a teacher of theory at Freiburg Univ.; lived in Berlin, then in the Netherlands. He wrote an opera, Gijsbrecht van Amstel (1947), 3 syms., 2 string quartets, and songs. He publ. a book, Bildhafte Musik:Entwurf einer Lehre von der musikalischen Darstellungskunst (Tubingen, 1928).
