Eisma, Will (Leendert)
Eisma, Will (Leendert), Dutch violinist and composer; b. Sungailiat, Dutch East Indies, May 13, 1929. He received violin lessons from his father, and then studied violin and counterpoint at the Rotterdam Cons. (1948–53). He also had private composition lessons with Kees van Baaren, and later studied violin with Andre Gertler and composition with Goffredo Petrassi at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome (1959–61), and took a course in electronic music in Utrecht. Eisma was a violinist in the Rotterdam Phil. (1953–59), the Societa Corelli Chamber Orch. (1960–61), and the Hilversum Radio Chamber Orch. (1961–89). He also organized his own electronic music studio in 1973. His output is in an uncompromisingly modern idiom.
