Ehlert, Louis
Ehlert, Louis, German composer and teacher; b. Königsberg, Jan. 13, 1825; d. Wiesbaden, Jan. 4, 1884. He was a pupil of Mendelssohn and Schumann at the Leipzig Cons., and later studied in Vienna and Berlin. He taught piano at Tausig’s school in Berlin (1869–71), and later in Meiningen and Wiesbaden. Among his works were a Fruhlingssinfonie, a Requiem fur ein Kind, and many piano pieces. He publ. Briefe uber Musik an eine Freundin (Berlin, 1859; Eng. tr., 1870, as Letters on Music, to a Lady and a collection of essays, Aus der Tonwelt (Berlin, 1877; Eng. tr., 1885, as From the Tone World).
