Egorov, Youri
Egorov, Youri, Russian pianist; b. Kazan, May 28, 1954; d. Amsterdam, April 15, 1988. He learned to play the piano as a child in Kazan, and later was a pupil of Zak at the Moscow Cons. In 1971 he won 4th prize in the Long-Thibaud competition in Paris, and in 1974 third prize in the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow. In 1976 he left his homeland and settled in the Netherlands. He made his N.Y. debut in 1978 and appeared for the first time in England in 1980. In subsequent years, he appeared with many of the principal orchs. of the world and as a recitalist. His career was cut tragically short by AIDS. He was particularly admired for his performances of the Romantic repertory.
