Egmond, Max (Rudolf) van

Egmond, Max (Rudolf) van, admired Dutch bass-baritone; b. Semarang, Java, Feb. 1, 1936. He studied with Tine van Willingen-de Lorme and took prizes in the ’s-Hertogenbosch (1959), Brussels (1962), and Munich (1964) competitions. He then pursued a distinguished career as a concert and oratorio artist, touring extensively in Europe and North America. From 1973 he also taught singing at the Amsterdam Musieklyceum. He was particularly associated with Baroque music, excelling in the works of Bach.
