Eckelt, Johann Valentin
Eckelt, Johann Valentin, German organist, music theorist, and composer; b. Werningshausen, near Erfurt (baptized), May 8, 1673; d. Sondershausen, Dec. 18, 1732. He was a pupil of Johann Pachelbel in Erfurt. In 1697 he became organist in Wernigrode, and about 1701 in Sondershausen. He amassed a valuable library, which was acquired by Gerber. Eckelt’s writings, as well as a Passion, sacred arias, and instrumental pieces, are not extant.
