Earhart, Will
Earhart, Will, American music educator; b. Franklin, Ohio, April 1, 1871; d. Los Angeles, April 23, 1960. From 1900 to 1912 he was a school supervisor in various localities in Ohio and Ind. In 1912 he went to Pittsburgh, where he was director of music in the public schools (1912–40). He was also founder and head of public school music at the Univ. of Pittsburgh (1913) and a lecturer on music education at the Carnegie Inst. of Technology. He publ. a number of books on musical education, among them Music in the Public Schools (1914); with O. McConathy, Music in Secondary Schools (1917); Music to the Listening Ear (1932); The Meaning and Teaching of Music (1935); and with C. Boyd, Elements of Music Theory (2 vols., 1938); ed. Art Songs for High Schools (1910); and The School Credit Piano Course (1918).
