Dupuis, Sylvain
Dupuis, Sylvain, Belgian conductor and composer; b. Liége, Oct. 9,1856; d. Bruges, Sept. 28,1931. He was a pupil at the Liege Cons., winning the Prix de Rome in 1881. He became a teacher of counterpoint there, and was also conductor of the singing society La Legia. In 1888 he established the Nouveaux Concerts Symphoniques. He was appointed 1st conductor at the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels in 1900, and conductor of the Concerts Populaires. From 1911 until 1926, he was director of the Cons, at Liege.
