Dopper, Cornelis
Dopper, Cornelis, Dutch conductor and composer; b. Stadskanaal, near Groningen, Feb. 7, 1870; d. Amsterdam, Sept. 18, 1939. He was a student of Jadassohn and Reinecke at the Leipzig Cons. (1887–90). After serving as a coach and conductor with the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam (1896–1903), he was conductor of the Savage Opera Co., with which he toured North America. From 1908 to 1931 he held the post of 2nd conductor under Mengelberg with the Concertgebouw Orch. in Amsterdam. He introduced youth concerts to the Netherlands. His well-crafted scores were com-posed in a late Romantic vein.
