Dolukhanova, Zara

Dolukhanova, Zara, Russian mezzo-soprano of Armenian descent; b. Moscow, March 5, 1918. She studied with private teachers. She joined the Moscow Radio staff in 1944. A lyric singer, she excelled in the Romantic Russian repertoire. In 1959 she made her first American tour, enjoying great acclaim; she toured America again in 1970. In 1966 she was awarded the Lenin Prize.
