Dobronićcacute;, Antun Croatian composer and teacher; b. Jelsa, island of Hvar, April 2, 1878; d. Zagreb, Dec. 12,1955. He studied music with Novak in Prague, then returned to Yugoslavia, and in 1921 was appointed a prof, at the Zagreb Cons. He wrote many stage works, among them the opéras Ragusean Diptych, The Man of God, Mara, Dubrovnic’ki triptihon (1925), Udovica Rozlinka (1934), Rkac (1938), and Goran (1944). He also wrote a ballet, The Giant Horse, 8 syms., 2 symphonic poems: Au long de I’Adriatique (1948) and Les Noces (1949), chamber music in the national style, including a Piano Quintet, subtitled Bosnian Rhapsody, and 5 string quartets, choruses, and songs.
