Doane, William H(oward)
Doane, William H(oward), American hymn writer; b. Preston, Conn., Feb. 3,1832; d. South Orange, N.J., Dec. 24,1915. He served as a clerk and later entered the manufacturing business. He composed more than 2,000 gospel songs and a Christmas cantata, Santa Claus. His hymn Pass Me Not was popular.
