Dinicu, Grigoras
Dinicu, Grigoras, Romanian violinist and composer; b. Bucharest, April 3, 1889; d. there, March 28, 1949. He was of a family of musicians. In 1902 he studied violin with Flesch, who taught at the Bucharest Cons. At his graduation in 1906, Dinicu played a violin piece of his own based on popular Romanian rhythms, Horn staccato; Jascha Heifetz made a virtuoso arrangement of it in 1932. Subsequently Dinicu played in hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and cafes in Bucharest and in western Europe. He also composed numerous other pieces of light music in the gypsy and Romanian manner.
