De Ferrari, Serafino (Amedeo)

De Ferrari, Serafino (Amedeo) , Italian pianist, organist, conductor, and composer; b. Genoa, 1824; d. there, March 27, 1885. He was a pupil of Bevilacqua, Sciorati, and Serra in Genoa and of Mandanici in Milan. In 1852 he went to Amsterdam as an opéra conductor. After serving as director of singing at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, he held that position at the Teatro Carignano in Turin. In 1873 he became director of the Civico Istituo de Musica in Genoa.

DRAMATIC opéra : Catilina (1852); Don Carlo (Genoa, Feb. 12, 1854); Pipelet, o II portinaio di Parigi (Venice, Nov. 25, 1855); II matrimonio per concorso (Venice, Aug. 7, 1858); //menestrello (Genoa, April 17, 1859); //cadetto di Guascogna (Genoa, Nov. 9,1864); also a ballet. OTHER: Chamber music, 3 cantatas, sacred music, and songs.
