Cupido, Alberto

Cupido, Alberto , Italian tenor; b. Portofino, March 19, 1948. He studied at the Milan Cons, and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena. In 1977 he made his operatic debut in Genoa as Pinkerton, and then his German debut as Rodolfo in Frankfurt am Main. He made his British debut in 1978 as Rodolfo at the Glyndebourne Festival. Following an engagement as Faust at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich in 1982, he made his U.S. debut in San Francisco in 1983. He portrayed Edgardo at his first appearance at Milan’s La Scala in 1983, a role he reprised in Monte Carlo in 1987. He sang Faust in Geneva in 1988 and in Rome in 1990. Following an appearance as Faust at the Lyric Opera in Chicago in 1991, he portrayed Cavaradossi at London’s Covent Garden in 1993. In 1995 he sang Reyer’s Sigurd in Marseilles, and then appeared as Rodolfo in Genoa in 1996.
