Crozier, Eric (John) (b London, 1914; d Granville, Normandy, 1994). Eng. writer and opera producer. BBC TV producer 1936–9. Closely assoc. with Britten, being co-founder of EOG 1946, and of Aldeburgh Fest. 1948. Librettist of Britten's cantata St Nicolas, and operas Albert Herring, Let's Make an Opera, and (with E. M. Forster) Billy Budd, and of Berkeley's Ruth. Also wrote commentary for concert vers. of The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra (1946). Trans. many operas. Prod. f.p. of Peter Grimes in London 1945 and in Tanglewood 1946, and of Rape of Lucretia, Glyndebourne 1946. Taught at Britten-Pears Sch., Snape. OBE 1991.
