Cortellini, Camillo

Cortellini, Camillo , Italian trombonist and composer; b. Bologna, c. 1560; d. there, March 1630. He spent his entire life in his native city. After studies with his father, he received instruction in trombone, singing, and counterpoint from Alfonso Ganassi. In 1573 he became a member of the concerto palatine, a distinguished instrumental ensemble, and served as its director from 1613. From 1593 he was also active at S. Petronio. He publ. seven books of sacred music (1595–1626) and three books of madrigals (1583–86).
