Chancy, François de

Chancy, François de, French lutenist and composer; b. place and date unknown; d. Aug. 1656. After serving Cardinal Richelieu (1631–35), he was a chamber musician to the king (from 1635), and also was in charge of the children in the royal household (from 1644). He was a skillful composer of chansons.
