Bullant, Antoine
Bullant, Antoine, French bassoonist and composer; b. c. 1750; d. St. Petersburg, June 1821. He went to Paris about 1771, where he was active as a bassoonist and composer. In 1780 he settled in St. Petersburg. In 1783–84 he was court bassoonist, and then joined the imperial theater orch. in 1787. He composed the popular comic opera Sbitenshchik (The Hot-Mead Vendor; St. Petersburg, 1784). He also wrote the comic opera Vinetta, Hi Taras v ulye (Vinetta, or Taras in the Beehive; 1799), 5 syms., chamber music, and vocal works.
