Bucenus, Paulus
Bucenus, Paulus, esteemed German composer who flourished in the second half of the 16th century. He matriculated at the Univ. of Greifswald in 1567. About 1570 he became Kantor at the Thorn Gymnasium; by 1576 he was Kantor at the Riga Cathedral. He was a notable composer of sacred music. His works include the St. Matthew Passion for 6 Voices (1578) and the 2 extensive collections Tomi musici operis ecclesiae rigensis (1583–84), which includes 24 masses, 100 motets, and various other liturgical pieces.
