Bréval, Lucienne (real name, Berthe Agnes Lisette Schilling), Swiss-born French soprano; b. Mànnedorf, Nov. 4, 1869; d. Paris, Aug. 15, 1935. She studied piano at the Lausanne Cons, and the Geneva Cons, and voice with Wartot at the Paris Cons., making her operatic debut at the Paris Opéra as Selika in L’Africaine on Jan. 20, 1892; subsequently was a principal singer there for 25 years. In 1899 she sang at London’s Covent Garden, and on Jan. 16, 1901, made her Metropolitan Opera debut in N.Y. as Chimène in Le Cid, remaining on the company’s roster until 1902. She excelled in the French repertoire.
