Bónis, Ferenc

Bónis, Ferenc, Hungarian musicologist; b. Miskolc, May 17, 1932. He studied composition with Szervánszky and musicology with Bartha, Kodály, and Szabolcsi at the Budapest Academy of Music (Ph.D., 1958, with the diss. Mosonyi MMly). He was an ed. (1950-52; 1957-70) and director of programs in music for young audiences (1970–96) with the Hungarian Radio. From 1961 to 1973 he pursued musicological research at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He was made a lecturer at the Budapest Academy of Music in 1972 and the Univ. of Cologne in 1996. He became ed. of Magyar Zenetu-domány in 1959, and also of Magyar Zenetö;rteneti Tanul-mányok in 1968. In 1989 he became president of the Ferenc Erkel Soc, and also of the Hungarian Kodály Soc. in 1992.
