Blondeau, Pierre-Auguste-Louis

Blondeau, Pierre-Auguste-Louis, French violist and composer; b. Paris, Aug. 15, 1784; d. there, 1865. He studied at the Paris Cons, with Baillot, Gossec, and Méhul, winning the Prix de Rome in 1808 with his cantata, Maria Stuart. He was violist in the Grand Opera Orch. until 1842. He wrote an opera, Alla fontana, a ballet, 3 overtures, church music, chamber music, piano pieces, and songs. He also a number of theoretical works.
