Beurhaus, Friedrich
Beurhaus, Friedrich, German music theorist; b. Immecke, near Meinerzhagen, 1536; d. Dortmund, Aug. 6, 1609. He was educated in Munster and Dortmund, and then received his M.A. in 1560 from the Univ. of Cologne. Subsequently he was cantor in several towns before taking up the post of cantor of the Reinoldi school in Dortmund in 1567; was named its rector in 1582. He publ. the important treatise Musicae erotematum libri duo, ex optimis huius artis scriptoribus vera perspicuaque methodo descripto (Dortmund, 1573; 2nd ed. as Erotematum musicae libri duo, 1580; 4th ed., 1591; facsimile ed., prepared by W. Thoene, in Beiträge zur rheinischen Musikgeschichte, Cologne, 1959).
