Bernal Jiménez, Miguel

Bernal Jiménez, Miguel, Mexican composer; b. Morelia, Michoacán, Feb. 16, 1910; d. León, Guanajuato, July 12, 1956. He received training in music in Morelia, and later studied composition, organ, and Gregorian chant at the Pontifical Inst. of the Sacred Heart in Rome (1928–33). After returning to Morelia, he became director of the Escuela Nacional in 1936 and of the Las Rosas Cons, in 1945. From 1952 until his death he was head of the music faculty of Loyola Univ. in New Orleans. His Organ Concertino is a nearly exclusive Mexican example of the genre.
