Basili, Francesco

Basili, Francesco, Italian conductor and composer; b. Loreto, Jan. 31, 1767; d. Rome, March 25, 1850. He studied with his father, Andrea Basili, with Giovanni Battista Borghi, and at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Jannaconi. After conducting in Foligno, Macerata, and Loreto, he served as director of the Milan Cons. (1827–37) and maestro di cappella at St. Peter’s in Rome (from 1837).
