Banwart, Jakob
German composer; b. Sigmarin-gen, May 19, 1609; d. Konstanz, c. 1657. He studied with Daniel Bollius, the court organist in Sigmaringen, then continued his education at Dillingen Univ. (1629–31), where he received a master’s degree. He was ordained in Konstanz in 1632, and subsequently active as a musician at the court there; in 1641 he became Kapellmeister of the Cathedral. He composed mostly music for the church, but also took time off to write a collection of humorous dialogues, quodlibets, and other pieces which were publ. in his lifetime.
