Bachofen, Johann Caspar
Bachofen, Johann Caspar, Swiss composer; b.Zurich, Dec. 26, 1695; d. there, June 23, 1755. He studied in Zurich at the Cathedral school, receiving the title of V.D.M. (verbi divini minister) in 1720. In 1742 he was named cantor at the Grossmünster Cathedral there, and he concurrently served as Kapellmeister at the German School there (from 1739). He is best known for his popular collection of sacred songs for home use, publ. as Musicalisches Hallelujah (1727; many subsequent reprints).
