Allegri, Domenico

Allegri, Domenico, Italian composer; b. Rome, 1585; d. there, Sept. 5, 1629. He was maestro di cappella at S. Maria Maggiore from 1610 to 1629, and was one of the first to provide vocal music with an independent instrumental accompaniment. A few of his motets are extant (a soprano solo, a tenor duet, and a bass solo, each accompanied by 2 violins).
