Agus, Joseph
Agus, Joseph, Italian violinist and composer; b. 1749; d. Paris, 1798. He may have been the son of Giuseppe Agus. He studied violin with Nardini in Italy. In 1773 he made his debut in London. After being convicted of attempted rape of his godchild Elisabeth (Weichsel) Billington in 1778, he went to France. From 1795 he was maître de solfège at the Paris Cons. Among his works were trios, violin duets, catches, and glees.
