Toy Story 2 ★★★★ 1999 (G)

Woody is kidnapped by a greedy toy collector and finds out that he was the star of a popular ‘50s children's show (think Howdy Doody) with a posse of his own. Buzz and the other denizens of Andy's room set out to save him, and in the process meet up with Buzz's archnemesis Emperor Zurg. All of the original cast members return to their nowclassic characters, and the plentiful new characters, injokes, and tributes to other movies keep this installment just as entertaining for kids and adults as the original. This one actually has more depth than the first, dealing with issues such as mortality and the meaning of (a toy's) life. Watch for the outtakes reel while the final credits roll. 92m/C VHS, DVD. D: John Lasseter, Lee Unkrich, Ash Bannon; W: Ash Bannon, Rita Hsiao, Doug Chamberlin, Chris Webb, Andrew Stanton; M: Randy Newman; V: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, John Ratzenberger, Annie Potts, Wayne Knight, Laurie Metcalf, Jim Varney, Estelle Harris, Kelsey Grammer, Wallace Shawn, John Morris, R. Lee Ermey, Jodi Benson, Jonathan Harris, Joe Ranft, Andrew Stanton, Robert Goulet. Golden Globes ‘00: Film—Mus./Comedy.
