That's Entertainment, Part 3
That's Entertainment, Part 3 ★★ 1993 (G)
Third volume contains 62 MGM musical numbers from over 100 films, hosted by nine of the original stars, and is based on outtakes and unfinished numbers from studio archives. One new technique used here is a split-screen showing both the actual film with a behind-the-scenes shot that includes cameramen, set designers, and dancers scurrying around. Although it has its moments, TE3 doesn't generate the same reverence for Hollywood's Golden Age that its predecessors managed to do. That 18-year gap between sequels may say something about what the studio execs thought of their film vault's remainders. 113m/C VHS, DVD. D: Bud Friedgen, Michael J. Sheridan; W: Bud Friedgen, Michael J. Sheridan; M: Marc Shaiman.
