Snipes
Snipes ★★ ½ 2001 (R)
Snipes are the posters you see plastered to walls and lampposts—in this case they're of up-andcoming Philly rapper Prolifik (Nelly), who's got a gangsta background and a shady record deal. The record label owner, Bobby Starr (Winters), is in hock to local mobster Johnnie Maradino (Vincent). When Prolifik gets kidnapped and the master tape of his recordings is also stolen, Starr, for some unknown reason, thinks that gofer/fan Erik (Jones) is somehow mixed up in the mess. Actually, there's a lot that's unclear since first-timer Murray overstuffs the plot. 113m/C VHS, DVD . Sam Jones III, Dean Winters, Mpho Koaho, Nelly, Zoe Saldana, Frank Vincent; D: Rich Murray; W: Rich Murray, Rob Wiser; C: Alexander Buono.
