Real Women Have Curves
Real Women Have Curves ★★★ 2002 (PG-13)
Comingofage comedy marks the debut of Ferrara as the young, headstrong and slightly plump MexicanAmerican Ana, who has decided to attend college despite her overbearing mother Carmen (Ontiveros), who's decided that Ana would be better off married with children. Ana's plans are put on hold when she has to help her sister Estela (Oliu) meet deadlines in a dress factory. While featuring such themes as the body image of larger women, work in a sweatshop and the rigid roles assigned to ethnic youngsters by their elders, the film manages to avoid cliches and preachiness. 93m/C VHS, DVD .
