Murder by Numbers 2002
Murder by Numbers ★★½ 2002 (R)
Homicide detective Cassie May-weather (Bullock) is a crime scene specialist saddled with a by-the-book new partner, Sam Kennedy (Chaplin). This isn't good since she has to prove that two wealthy young men (Gosling, Pitt) have committed what they think is the perfect murder (shades of Leopold and Loeb and with nods to Hitchcock). Naturally, Cassie has baggage and must come to terms with her past in order to solve the crime. Gosling's downright scary while Pitt well-plays his weaker partner; Bullock works against being likeable as a loner toughie. 120m/C VHS, DVD . US Sandra Bullock, Ben Chaplin, Ryan Gosling, Michael Pitt, Christopher Penn, R.D. Call, Agnes Bruckner; D: Barbet Schroeder; W: Tony Gayton; C: Luciano Tovoli; M: Clint Mansell.
