Monsters, Inc. ★★★½ 2001 (G)

Sweet-natured animated film from Pixar that's geared more towards the younger end of the family spectrum than films like “Toy Story.” Monstropolis is a town that is powered by the screams of human children, which are captured in tanks thanks to “scarers” who invade the kids' bedrooms via their closet doors. Sully (Goodman) is the best there is, with the help of buddy Mike (Crystal), but he has a problem when human toddler Boo (Gibbs) accidentally gets loose in monster town, which is a big no-no, and Sully has to get her safely home. There's also some sinister goings-on at a company level causing problems for our boys. Very colorful and more silly than scary (what's scary is the familiar toddler behavior). 92m/C VHS, DVD . USD: Pete Docter; W: Andrew Stanton, Daniel Gerson; M: Randy Newman; V: John Goodman, Billy Crystal, Steve Buscemi, Mary Gibbs, James Coburn, Jennifer Tilly, John Ratzenberger, Frank Oz, Bob Peterson, Bonnie Hunt. Oscars ‘01: Song (“If I Didn't Have You”).
