The Merry Widow ??½ 1952

Rich widow Turner travels to her husband's homeland of Marshovia to dedicate a statue to his memory. The country is deeply in debt and the king would like the widow to marry a local count and remain (along with her fortune). Lamas is charming as the intended bridegroom but Turner, though lovely looking, is miscast; her singing was dubbed by Erwin. Uninspired remake of the 1934 film only benefits from being shot in color and the lavish production values. Based on the operetta by Lehar. ?The Merry Widow Waltz; Can-Can; Girls, Girls, Girls; I'm Going to Maxim's. 105m/C VHS . Lana Turner, Fernando Lamas, Una Merkel, Richard Haydn, Thomas Gomez, John Abbott, Marcel Dalio, King Donovan, Robert Coote, Joi Lansing; Cameos: Gwen Verdon; D: Curtis Bernhardt; W: Sonya Levien, William Ludwig; C: Robert L. Surtees; M: Franz Lehar; V: Trudy Erwin.
