Lulu on the Bridge
Lulu on the Bridge ★★½ 1998 (PG-13)
Jazz saxman Izzy Maurer (Keitel) sinks into depression when he can no longer perform. Walking one night, Izzy stumbles across a dead body and finds no ID—only a phone number and a mysterious stone that emits a blue light. Izzy calls the number, which belongs to actress/waitress Celia (Sorvino), and their first meeting finds them instantly in love (or some variation). Meanwhile, the mysterious Dr. Van Horn (Dafoe) questions Iggy about finding the stone. And things don't get much clearer. First solo directorial effort for Auster, who co-directed Keitel in “Blue in the Face,” the spinoff to his screenplay “Smoke.” 104m/C VHS, DVD . Harvey Keitel, Mira Sorvino, Willem Dafoe, Gina Gershon, Mandy Patinkin, Vanessa Redgrave, Victor Argo, Kevin Corrigan, Richard Edson; D: Paul Auster; W: Paul Auster; C: Alik Sakharov; M: Graeme Revell.
